String lighting, also known as bistro lighting, is essentially Christmas lights but instead of hung around a tree they’re hung delicately indoors or outdoors to increase the ambiance of the area. They can be called bistro lights because string lighting is commonly seen hung horizontally above an outdoor dining area in small bistros or café’s, thus the name was born. While string lights are seen more in bistros and restaurants, many homeowners are starting to adopt the string lighting look to increase the ambiance of their porch or outdoor sitting area.
String Lights
While we had mentioned that string lights are similar to Christmas lights, this is true to an extent. The lights are all attached and spread apart but while Christmas lights have smaller bulbs, most string lights have much larger bulbs. String lights usually have rounded globe lights that give off a beautiful soothing illumination. The bulbs are specifically made to be outside and are made of commercial grade material to withstand exposure to the elements. Strings lights can be sold at various chord lengths to accommodate different size areas.
